Margaret was born in 1857.  Margaret's father is Peter MacKenzie and her mother is Jane Begg.  Her paternal grandparents are Peter MacKenzie and Janet Gow; her maternal grandparents are Peter Begg and Catherine Smith.  She has five brothers and a sister, named John, Peter, Andrew, Donald, William and Catherine.  She is the third oldest of the seven children.
