Isabella was born in 1890.  Isabella's father was John MacKay and her mother was Isabella Mowat.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert MacKay and Mary Keith; her maternal grandparents were George Mowat and Isobella Begg.  She had two brothers and two sisters, named Robert, George, Jamesina and Mary.  She is the third oldest of the five children.  She had a half-sister named Jane.
