Catherine was born in 1835.  Catherine's father was Donald MacDonald and her mother is Hannah Russell.  Her paternal grandparents were John MacDonald and Flora MacDonald; her maternal grandparents are William Russell and Catherine McLean.  She had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Archibald, Donald, Malcolm, Mary and Flora.  She was the sixth oldest of the seven children.  She died at the age of 70 in 1905.
