Jan Fransen was born in 1629 in Sprang-Capelle and his baptism took place in June 1629 in Capelle (Noord Brabant).1   His godmother was Grietgen Cornelisdr. Jan Fransen's father was Frans Franszn Vermeer and his mother was Cunken Ariaensdr.  His paternal grandparents were Frans Vermeer and N.N. N.N.. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Frans Franszn, Ariaen, Sebastiaen Fransen, Margrietgen and Marytgen.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.
