Jan was born in 1687 in Gameren and his baptism took place there on February 2nd, 1687.1  Jan's father is Gijsbert Janszn de Swart and his mother is Jenneke Jans de Geus.  His maternal grandfather was Jan Jan Geritszn de Geus and his maternal grandmother is Peterken. He had four brothers and two sisters, named Cornelis, Arien, Arien, Johannes, Handersken and Jenneken.  He is the oldest of the seven children.
