Maria was born in 1727 in Loon op Zand and her baptism took place there on August 24th, 1727.1  Maria's father was Wouter Goverdszn van der Leij and her mother was Dorothea Petersdr de Rooij. She had two brothers and a sister, named Peeter, Dirk and Anna.  She was the third oldest of the four children.
