Geertruy was born in 1797 in Loon op Zand and her baptism took place there on January 22nd, 1797.1  Geertruy's father was Wouter van der Leij and her mother was Geertruij van Diemen.  Her paternal grandparents were Dirk van der Leij and Dingena Hommel; her maternal grandparents were Gerard van Diemen and Jenneke Johanna Timmers. She had two brothers and eight sisters, named Gerrit, Dirk, Dingena, Janneke, Pieternella, Jacomijna, Antonia, Mijna, Doora and Johanna.  She was the eighth oldest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 54 on September 11th, 1851 in Drongelen.2
