Jan was born on January 16th, 1812 in Bleiswijk.1  Jan's father was Zweer Kant and his mother was Willempje Dekker.  His paternal grandparents are Jan Kant and Anneke van der Vin. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Willem, Goose, Willem, Gerrit, Johanna, Anna, Trijntje, Willempje and Willempje.  He was the oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 75 on December 5th, 1887 in 's Hertogenbosch.2
