Simon was born in 1772 and his baptism took place on March 22nd, 1772 in Heesbeen.1  Simon's father was Simon Janszn Garstman and his mother was Geertruijt Sijmensdr Doedijns.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Gosenszn Garstman and Gijsbertje van Bommel; his maternal grandparents were Sijmen Lambertszn Doedijns and Johanna Jansdr van Veen. He had two brothers and a sister, named Johannes, Lambertus and Gijsbertje.  He was the oldest of the four children.  He died at the age of 82 on July 1st, 1854 in Eethen, Genderen en Heesbeen.2
