Berent was born in November 1738 in Swijp and his baptism took place on November 30th, 1738 in Lochem.1  Berent's father was Berent Burink and his mother was Jenneken Nieuwenhuijs.  His paternal grandparents were Herman Buijrinc and Anna Craats; his maternal grandparents were Willem Nieuwenhuijs and N.N. N.N.. He had a brother named Harmen.  He is the younger of the two children.
