Benjamin was born on August 11th, 1835 in London.  Benjamin's father was Joshua Betan (Bittan) and his mother was Phoebe Martin (Nunes Martinez).  His paternal grandparents were Yamin Betan and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were Jacob Martin (Nunes Martinez) and Rebecca Emanuel. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Abraham, Jacob, Samual, Elias, Simha, Solomon, Rebecca, Dinah, Julia, Esther and Sarah.  He was the oldest of the twelve children.  He died at the age of 31 on February 4th, 1867.

Benjamin and Esther were married.  They had a son named Benjamin.
