William was born on April 21st, 1812 in Haltwhistle, Northumberland.1   William's father was George Tallantyre and his mother was Barbara Mathers.  His paternal grandparents were William Tallantyre and Margaret Dodd. He had a brother and a sister, named Thomas and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 58 on February 10th, 1871.1
