John George Charles Osborne

John was born on September 3rd, 1899 in 49 Chicksand Street, Mile End New Town, Middlesex.¹ John's father was John Osborne and his mother was Emma Amelia Desmond. His maternal grandparents were Charles Desmond and Jane Elizabeth Newman. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, James, William, Alfred, Arthur, Helen and May. He was the oldest of the eight children.

  Joined the army 13/1/1915 ( World War 1) giving false age ,saying he was 18, calling himself Charles John Osborne. Joined Essex regiment, service number 10779. I think his mother gave the game away. and he was discharged 23/4/1915 address at time was 2 Collingwood Street, Bethnal Green, Middlesex
