Lydia was born on August 8th, 1832 in Thaxted, Essex and her christening took place on September 30th, 1832 in Independent, Thaxted, Essex.1 2   Lydia's father was William Martin and her mother was Mary Ann Parkin.  Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Parkin and Ann Johnson. She had a brother and a sister, named Joseph and Mary.  She was the oldest of the three children.
