Eliza was born in 1818 in Newport, Isle of Wight and her christening took place on February 8th, 1818 in Wesleyan, Newport, Isle of Wight.1 2   Eliza's father was Henry Jennings and her mother was Ann Delasalle. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Henry, John, Jeremiah, James, William, Sarah and Deborah.  She was the oldest of the eight children.
