William was born in December 1906 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex.1   William's father was William Alfred Horncastle and his mother was Elizabeth Sarah Sheldrake. He had a brother and four sisters, named Alfred, Hannah, Rosetta, Mary and Lusitania.  He was the second oldest of the six children.  He died in December 1906 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex.2
