William was born in 1864 in Hursley, Hampshire and his christening took place there on September 25th, 1864.1 2   William's father was William Haymer and his mother was Selina Mason.  His paternal grandparents were James Haymer and Lucy. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Charles, James, George, Edward, Thomas, Selina, Jane, Marianne and Mary.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 51 in March 1915 in Winchester, Hampshire.3
