William was born in 1827 in Hursley, Hampshire and his christening took place there on March 16th, 1827.1 2   William's father was James Haymer and his mother was Lucy. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, Henry, Charles, Sarah, Ann and Eliza.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 86 in March 1913 in Fareham, Hampshire.3
