Thomas was born in 1685 in Newton Toney, Wiltshire and his christening took place there on January 29th, 1685.1 2   Thomas' father was John Girle and his mother was Joane Grace.  His paternal grandparents were John Girle and Margaret Scrapon. He had two brothers named John and Joseph.  He was the second oldest of the three children.
