Robert was born on November 17th, 1900 in Holborn, Middlesex.¹

Robert's father was Robert Ernest Abbott and his mother was Mary Ann Eliza Darnell. His maternal grandparents were Francis William Darnell and Mary Ann Lardant. He had a brother and three sisters, named Walter, Elizabeth, Mary and Margaret. He was the oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 43 in 1943.²

  Robert was a salesman for the furniture business formed by himself his brother Walter and and Elizabeths husband Walter. It sadly went bust and they said Robert drank rather a lot. He had two children Joyce who died quite young and Robert(Bobbie)
