Mary Ann Catherine Abbott

Mary was born in March 1906 in Holborn, Middlesex.¹ Mary's father was Robert Ernest Abbott and her mother was Mary Ann Eliza Darnell. Her maternal grandparents were Francis William Darnell and Mary Ann Lardant. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Robert, Walter, Elizabeth and Margaret. She was the third oldest of the five children.

  Mary Ann Catherine Abbott was the daughter of my aunt, Mary Abbott nee Mary Ann Darnell. Mary appears to have been adopted by her mother's sister, my Aunt Elizabeth Batsford, nee Darnell. I knew Mary junior as "Auntie Millie", although she was really my cousin. She was 16 years older than me, and living at 94 The Avenue, Chingford, Essex. Also there was my father, Walter Eacott, living with his sister and brother-in-law, Walter and Elizabeth Batsford. He was apprenticed to Harris Lebus & Co, furniture makers of Tottenham, London, where Walter Batsford worked in a supervisory capacity.
