Mary was born in 1853 in Stratford-On-Avon, Warwickshire.¹ Mary's father was Samuel DUFFIN and her mother was Martha CALLAWAY. Her paternal grandparents were John DUFFIN and Mary ROBBINS . She had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Thomas, George, Samuel, William, Eliza and Jane. She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
