Duncan was born on May 14th, 1866 in Dunbar East Lothian Scotland.  Duncan's father was Duncan Naysmith and his mother was Elizabeth Mary Donaldson Comb.  His paternal grandparents were Duncan Naysmith and Margaret Thornburn; his maternal grandparents were Mathew Comb and Mary Crombie. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Richard, Peter, Archibald, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth and Janet.  He was the oldest of the eight children. He had a half-brother named Matthew.  He died at the age of 78 in 1944 in Musselburgh Mid Lothian Scotland.
