Mary's father was Alexander Comb and her mother was Mary Howe. Her paternal grandparents were William Hume Crombie Comb and Janet McGregor. She had two brothers and a sister, named James, George and Eva. She was the youngest of the four children. She died at the age of 1 in 1902 in Blyth Northumberland England.
