James was born in 1857 in Horsforth Yorkshire.1   James' father is Joseph Morris and his mother is Ann Mallinson.  His paternal grandparents are George Morris and Ann Johnson. He has a brother and four sisters, named George, Louisa, Charlotte, Mary and Ann Eliza.  He is the oldest of the six children.
