Ambrose was born in July 1821.  Ambrose's father was James Austen and his mother was Mary Drury.  His paternal grandparents were John Austen and Jane Sawyer; his maternal grandparents are <Unknown> and <Unknown>. He had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Maria, Eliza and Harriett.  He was the third oldest of the five children.
