John was born on May 3rd, 1849 in Barking Essex.1   John's father was John Thomas Quash (Smack Owner) and his mother was Mary Amelia Mills .  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Quash (pos born Exeter) and Elizabeth Hall; his maternal grandparents were James Bird Mills (Ironmonger) and Jane Machin. He had four brothers and eight sisters, named John, James, William, NOT NAMED, Mary , Jane, Elizabeth, Emma, Clara, Emma, Maria  and Maria.  He was the oldest of the thirteen children.  He died at 1 months old on June 18th, 1849 in Northbury House Barking.  The funeral took place in June 1849 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.  He was buried on June 20th, 1849 at St Margaret's  Church Barking.2 1
