María was born on March 4th, 1925 in Parral.  María's father was Marcos Eusebio Latham (Hall) and her mother was Julia Contreras (Rodriguez).  Her paternal grandparents were Eusebio Latham Esquella and Emilia Hall (Smith). She had four brothers and four sisters, named Eusebio, Carlos, Luis, Jorge, Julia, Raquel, Emilia and María. She had three half-brothers and six half-sisters, named Eusebio, Oscar, Francisco, Laura, Otilia, Berta, Alicia, Ofelia and Victoria.
