Father of James Gray according to son James' marriage certificate in 1888. Son's residence was Cullyvenny.
Since Jim Gray of Ballylintagh, grandson of James Gray of Cullyvenny has confirmed that James Gray of Cullyvenny was a brother of my great grandfather, William Gray of Englishtown, then this makes this James my great great grandfather.
A James Gray had a house, 5Ad, in Cullyvenny in the 1858 Griffiths Valuation. It was worth ten shillings and was leased from Matthew Moody who lived in House 5Aa. House 5Ab was a National School House, Andrew Gibosn and Another lived in 5Ac, John McQuaid lived in 5Ae, while a Thomas McMurtry leased 5Af from a James Moon. Plot 5A totalled 58 acres and was all held by Matthew Moody from Thomas Richardson.
In the Griffiths Valuation Revision Books, a James Gray continued to hold House 5Ad in Cullyvenny but a James Gray Snr. takes over the vacant house next door, 5Ac, in 1898. (This means that the James Gray in 5Ad could be a different James Gray, even though no change is shown - the original now being designated James Gray Snr. and moving next door.)
In Griffiths Valuation Revision Book 20E, a Robert Gray replaces James Gray Snr. in house 5Ac in Cullyvenny in 1907 BUT, this James Gray is probably already dead since his wife is a widow in the 1901 census.
