Source: I am now assuming that the Samuel who married Sarah McVickar is a brother of James, mainly because he (Samuel) was living in Coolevenney at time of marriage and his father was called James.
When he witnessed the marriage of his brother, William, to Margaret McVicker, in 1870, Samuel signed himself "Samuel A Gray". Samuel was actually baptised Samuel Alexander Gray by James and Elizabeth in Camus. This is one of the main pieces of evidence which ties my Grays into the Grays of Camus.
BB has now (02/07/07) sent me evidence that this man emigrated to the United states between 1860 and 1864 and lived in New York with his wife, Sarah, her sister, Isabella McVickar, and his young and growing family. They are recorded in both 1870 censuses (the census was done twice in 1870 because so many were missing from the first one) and also in the 1880 census.

BB has also found Sarah and the children, William, John and Samuel, arriving in New York aboard the Columbia on 13th July 1863, although Sarah's name is given as Susan.
Samuel witnessed the marriage of James Dixon and Matilda Barr on 24 July 1862 so he must ahve left after hat date.
In the 1870 census, they are living in the 4th Election District, 22nd Ward of New York. His occupation is described as a "Timber Lumber Wagon". He is living with his wife, Sarah, children William, John, Samuel, Sarah and Isabella, and also his sister-in-law, Isabella McVickar. His son, Samuel, aged 10, was born in Ireland but his daughter, Sarah Maria, aged 6 was born in New York, so he must have immigrated sometime between 1860 and 1864, by this reckoning.
In the 1870 census, 2nd enumeration (which is dated January 1871, compared to the original enumeration which is dated June 1870), they are living in 41st Street between 4th Avenue and 9th Avenue, New York. His occupation is described as a Lumber Driver. The details of the children are the same but there is no sign of his sister-in-law Isabella McVickar.
By 1880, he is living at West 26th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue. This may or may not be the same place as the 1870 census. He is now a "Hack" driver, aged 48, from Ireland, living with his wife, Sarah, aged 55. a housekeeper, son, William aged 24, a carpenter, son John, aged 22, a cabinet maker, son Samuel. 19, a clerk, daughter Sarah Maria, aged 15, a dressmaker, daughter Isabella, aged 13 still at school. The children were all born in Ireland up to Sarah Maria, who was the first child born in New York. Also living with them is Samuel's sister-in-law, Isabella, aged 36, with no occupation perhaps because she was suffering from malaria at the time, and she too was from Ireland.
The census for 1890 was destroyed but this came from A.com via BB:
1890 City Directory - NYC - [Census substitute]
Gray Samuel, driver, h r 311 W. 20th
Gray Samuel jr. porter, h r 311 W. 20th
This man, and also his wife, (Sarah McVickar) Gray, may be deceased by 1900 because his daughter, Isabella, is living with his sister-in-law, Margaret (McVickar) Gray in the 1900 census. He was dead - he died from a fall on the first day of January 1892. He was living at 98 Seventh Avenue at the time and he was a widower.
