George's father was Alexander Walker and his mother was Isobel Lorn.  His paternal grandparents were Andrew Walker and Helen Muirhead; his maternal grandparents were William Lorn and Jean Gardner. He had six brothers and three sisters, named William, Walker, Alexander, David, William, William, Agnes, Margaret and Jean.  He was the fourth oldest of the ten children.
