Margaret's father was Andrew Tulloch and her mother was Helen Hadston.  Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Tulloch and Margaret Hastie; her maternal grandparents were John Hadston and Isobel Pringle. She had three brothers and two sisters, named David, John, Adam, Tulloch and Margaret.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
