Euphemia's father was David Taylor and her mother was Mary Ann MacDonald Hodge. Her paternal grandparents were Andrew Taylor and Ann Scoffield. She had five brothers and two sisters, named Andrew, William, Robert, James, David, Annie and Jessie. She was the second youngest of the eight children. She died at the age of 3 in 1870 in Riccarton.
