William's father was John Adam Robertson and his mother was Georgina Wason. His maternal grandparents were William Wason and Susan Flinn. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, Hugh, Adam, Robert, Susan and Sadie. He was the fourth oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 57 in June 1958 in Philadelphia. He was buried on June 14th, 1958 in Philadelphia.
