Hugh's father was John Adam Robertson and his mother was Georgina Wason. His maternal grandparents were William Wason and Susan Flinn. He had four brothers and two sisters, named John, William, Adam, Robert, Susan and Sadie. He was the third oldest of the seven children. He died at the age of 66 on November 17th, 1964 in Philadelphia. He was buried in Philadelphia.
