Jessie's father was Robert Tait Robertson and her mother was Elizabeth Peattie Forrester Downie. Her paternal grandparents were Jonathan Robertson and Helen Tait. She had a brother named Edmund. She was the older of the two children. She died at the age of 88 in 2004 in Glasgow.
