William's father was Felix Quin and his mother was Elisabeth McDonald. His maternal grandparents were Charles McDonald and Janet McNidder Robertson. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Hugh, Charles, Hugh, Felix, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Janet, Agnes and Janet. He died at the age of 92 in 1977 in Irvine.
