Edward's father was John Pritchard and his mother was Euphemia McKechan Rennie.  His maternal grandparents were Alexander Rennie and Janet Ross. He had four brothers and a sister, named John, Alexander, David, Ross and Jessie.  He was the second youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 5 in 1886 in Glasgow.
