Mary Ann's father was Samuel Pitt and her mother was Annie Laidlaw.  Her paternal grandparents were John Pitt and Helen McMurren. She had five brothers named Jonathan, William, John, Samuel and David.  She was the third youngest of the six children.  She died at the age of 89 in 1970.
