Ann's father was George Philp and her mother was Margaret Finlayson.  Her maternal grandparents were James Finlayson and Anna Davidson. She had four brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, John, Robert, George, Agnes and Christian.  She was the oldest of the seven children.
