Catherine's father was James Munachen and her mother was Susan Kennedy Lawson. Her paternal grandparents were William Munachen and Catherine Robertson. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Jim, Allan, Susie and Jean. She died at the age of 2 in 1913 in Australia.²
