Catherine's father was Alexander McQueen and her mother was Julia Carmichael.  Her paternal grandparents were John McQueen and McDougall; her maternal grandparents were Lachlan Carmichael and Mary McIntosh. She had four brothers and a sister, named John, Duncan, Alexander, Allan and Mary.  She was the second youngest of the six children.
