Richard's father was Thomas Morrison McPike and his mother was Agnes McTaggart Mcclelland. He had three brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, James, Robert, Margaret, Helen and Isabella.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.  He died in 1864 in Tarbolton.
