Margaret's father was John McPherson and her mother was Margaret Rennie.  Her maternal grandparents were David Rennie and Agnes Miller. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Donald, David, Alexander, John, Andrew, James, Agnes and Mary.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 6 in 1879 in Kelvin.
