Peter was born in 1893 in Paisley.1  Peter's father was John McLauchlan and his mother was Rebecca Thomson Lafferty.  His maternal grandparents were Joseph Lafferty and Margaret French. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Joseph, John, Margaret and Rebecca.  He was the oldest of the five children.
