Mary's father was Joseph Lafferty and her mother was Margaret French.  Her paternal grandparents were John Lafferty and Mary Ann Davidson. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Joseph, Joseph, Malcolm, Lewis, Mary, Margaret, Elizabeth and Rebecca.  She was the fifth oldest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 56 in 1923 in Renfrew.
