Joseph's father was Alexander Kilgore and his mother was Mary Jane Steen.  His maternal grandparents were Joseph Steen and Jane Devenny. He had two brothers named James and Alexander.  He was the second oldest of the three children.  He died due to natural causes or old age, senile decay, myocarditis 1 month, at the age of 77 on June 16th, 1941 in Drumatoland.²
