George's father was Thomas Wilson and his mother was Susannah Mcclatchie Kegan. His maternal grandparents were Hugh Keggans and Agnes Robertson. He had a brother and three sisters, named Thomas, Catherine, Agnes and Mary. He was the oldest of the five children. He died at the age of 79 in 1972 in Ayr.
