Primrose was born on August 4th, 1889 in Tradeston.1 2  Primrose's father was Richard Nathaniel Hanning and her mother was Elshie Rennie.  Her maternal grandparents were Peter Rennie and Mary Ann Wood. She had four brothers and three sisters, named George, John, James, Richard, Mary Ann, Elsie and Primrose.  She was the youngest of the eight children.  She died at the age of 71 in 1960 in Tradeston.
