George's father was Richard Nathaniel Hanning and his mother was Elshie Rennie.  His maternal grandparents were Peter Rennie and Mary Ann Wood. He had three brothers and four sisters, named John, James, Richard, Mary Ann, Elsie, Primrose and Primrose.  He was the oldest of the eight children.  He died due to a medical problem, Epilepsy and Alcoholism, at the age of 41 on July 2nd, 1914 in Plymouth.³
